Vastu Shastra: Effect Of Architecture On Human Life
What Is Vastu Shastra: It is an ancient science of architecture and construction. It is derived from two Sanskrit words Vastu (Means Dwelling) and Shastra (Means Science). Vastu Shastra is more than just architecture and construction.
It is the study of making the construction in such a way to attract the available cosmic energy of the environment and create a place that promote health, wealth and happiness.
Vastu Shastra was practiced by the ancient Indian architectures and builders, who believe that the design and orientation of a structure can influence the well lbeing. The knowledge was passed down through the generations and modern people are still using it. It was traditionally used in temples, places and homes with the aim of creating a space with positive environment for growth.
Fundamental Principle of Vastu Shastra
The core of Vastu Shastra lies in the five fundamental elements like
- Earth (Bhumi)
- Water (Jal)
- Fire (Agni)
- Air (Vayu)
- Space (Akash)
Our ancient Vastu Expert has a believe that these elements have an impact of energy flow within the space. It says that each element position, its direction and surrounding environment have an impact for people.
Orientation: The Orientation of a building is very important for residential or commercial use. If the entrance is not proper, then we may face several problems. The entrance should ideally face the north, east, or northeast to invite prosperity and positive energy. Each direction is associated with different aspects of life; for instance, the northeast is believed to be the direction of knowledge and spiritual growth
Room Placement: It has also guidance on room placement. For example, the kitchen should be in the southeast, as it is associated with the fire element, while bedrooms are best placed in the southwest, which is considered conducive to relaxation and stability.
Balancing the Elements: Ensuring a balance of the five elements within a space is crucial. This can be achieved through the strategic placement of natural materials, colors, and objects. For instance, using mirrors and water features in the north can enhance the water element, while incorporating plants and wooden furniture in the east can strengthen the earth element.
